Skin allergies number one complaint
for dog owners
According to an American pet insurance provider (VPI insurance), skin allergies are the number one complaint recorded by dog owners. It also reported that ear infections and stomach upsets as other high rating ailments among dogs. The major complaints for cats were said to be urinary infections and stomach upsets. Surprisingly, dental extractions were absent from top ten list of complaints.
"Almost all pets will have one of these conditions throughout their life," said Dr Carol McConnell, director of veterinary relations for VPI.
"In general, younger pets have a tendency to eat things they are not supposed to eat, which may result in stomach problems."
She added that it was important to provide daily care and attention for animals as proper care and prevention always made spotting a problem easier.
Tesco Personal Finance pet insurance expert Monica McCormack recently said that claims for bites and foreign bodies in the ears rise during the summer months as did pet insurance claims.
