Pet insurance claims to go up says
Tesco Pet Insurance
Tesco pet insurance says that the summer months will inevitably see a rise in pet insurance claims. This is based on the fact that there are a greater number of potential hazards in the summer for pets - especially cats and dogs.
In the corresponding period last year, between May and June, Tesco pet insurance reported a 6% rise in pet insurance claims. Problems for cats and dogs are largely attributed to spending more time outside but Tesco also reported that vomiting and sunburn are increased in the hotter weather.
Monica McCormack, a spokesperson for Tesco, said: "We really see an instance of higher claims when the sunny weather comes in and people are outside more with their dogs."
She added that different breeds of pet could face different risks in the summer months, with some cats having a higher susceptibility to sunburn and skin cancer in sunny weather.
Last summer, Halifax Pet Insurance urged British owners to leave their dogs at home during the summer months, rather than letting them overheat in a hot car.
