Buy Pet Insurance says the Daily Mirror
The Daily Mirror has urged pet owners, of both cats and dogs, to buy pet insurance in a recent story. It carried out a survey and found out that a staggering one in three pet owners has made an unexpected or unplanned trip to the vets to get treatment for their pet. This was part of a wider investigation into pet insurance and medical bills faced by pet owners.
Some of the increased costs of trips to the vets are due to advanced procedures now being used - such as brains scans - as well as the higher recent costs of prescription and other medical treatments. The result is that many households that own pets can face extreme pressure due to rising costs at the vets. Families with more than one pet can often face huge costs as a result of this.
Vet Chris Jones told the paper: "It would make life easier for us if more owners had (pet) insurance. We wouldn't have to think twice about giving pets the best treatment.
Many pet owners are not aware that pet insurance for cats and dogs is available from just £3.50 per month for cats and £4.50 per month for dogs. This covers the costs of expensive veterinary treatment and leaves pet owners without the worry of a sudden huge bill to pay. Some pet insurers will also give you discounts for buying online and also for insuring more than one pet.
Pet-ID, a supplier of radio tracking chips for cats and dogs, reports that medical costs for pets can spiral into the thousands, with a £150 cost after swallowing grass seed and a £4,173 bill for hip surgery. These costs can be negated with the right pet insurance.
