Pet owners not vaccinating their Dogs
A recent report by Direct Line pet insurance has confirmed that many dog owners in the UK are not immunising their pets, risking disease and high veterinary fees. It highlights the fact that many dog owners are fearful of getting their dogs immunised.
The report by Direct Line pet insurance states that over 864,000 British dogs have fallen foul of disease due to the lack of correct immunisation procedures being followed by pet owners in the last 5 years, and that 11% of dog owners admit the immunisations for their pet dogs are not up-to-date.
The report also states that 4% of dog owners in the UK have never had their dogs vaccinated and 9% fear immunisations can be detrimental to their dog's health. The misconception that vaccinations can be harmful to dogs was highlighted by Chris Price, head of Direct Line Pet Insurance. 1 in 6 British dogs contract diseases that could be averted by vaccinations and he urged all dog owners to get their dogs properly protected and to consult their vets before making such a decision.
One particular condition that can be prevented is the highly contagious parvovirus which can be fatal.
